KSrelief expands Ramadan support, donates to over 7,000 Muslims nationwide

More than 7,600 Muslims across Ghana have benefited from a food distribution initiative by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) during the Ramadan period.

A total of 7,640 beneficiaries received food baskets this year, marking a significant increase from the 5,300 recorded last year.

The annual programme continues to expand, reflecting its growing impact on Muslim communities nationwide.

The food packages — comprising rice, cooking oil, beans, maize, and Maggi cubes, among other essential items — are being distributed in Accra, Kumasi, Bolgatanga, Wa, and Bawku.

The exercise commenced in Accra, where approximately 1,000 Muslim men and women received their allocations.

Speaking at a brief ceremony in Accra, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Ghana, Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Dhakel, conveyed appreciation to the Saudi leadership for sustaining the humanitarian intervention.

He also thanked President John Dramani Mahama for facilitating the necessary processes that enabled the smooth execution of the project.

The initiative is being implemented locally through Markaz Aleawn Alyaqin Humanitarian Service, a Ghana-based non-governmental organisation that has partnered with KSrelief over the years to support vulnerable Muslims ahead of Ramadan.

Executive Director of the organisation, Ishmael Mohammed Kamil, expressed gratitude for the increased support this year.

“We are really grateful to KSrelief for increasing the food baskets following our appeal. This will significantly reduce the suffering of many fasting Muslims during Ramadan,” he said.

Mr. Kamil cautioned beneficiaries against selling the donated items, stressing that anyone found culpable would “face the full rigours of the law.”

He also encouraged recipients to extend support to others in need, highlighting the importance of sharing during the holy month.

Beneficiaries welcomed the intervention with appreciation and prayers. One recipient, Mariam Mohammed, said, “May Allah bless them. May all that they have spent be replenished many times over. As we have received this, we will also use it to support others.”

Adiza, who travelled from Bawku to receive her package, described the assistance as timely. “I came all the way from Bawku to receive this food. It will be very important to me during this fasting period. We sincerely thank KSrelief for this support,” she stated.

The Ramadan food basket initiative forms part of ongoing humanitarian efforts by KSrelief to ease hardship and strengthen solidarity within Muslim communities in Ghana.
