Transnational Academic Group led by Co-founder, Mr Rakesh Wahi, and Lancaster University Ghana cut the sod to commence construction of the new Lancaster University Ghana campus at Lakeside Estate.

Transnational Academic Group (TAG) is owned and operated by a group that focuses on building value across three major business verticals including media, education, and information technology.

The Group includes, among other interests, Global Institute Middle East FZ. LLC, CNBC Africa, Forbes Africa, Tech One Global, and SAMAA TV. Currently the group has three university partners and has set up branch campuses in Accra and Dubai.

Lancaster University Ghana, the only fully fledged British campus in West Africa is a partnership between Lancaster University UK and Transnational Academic Group which has grown from 67 students since its inception in 2013 to over 500 students to date.

The new Ghana campus is intended to accommodate predicted growth in student numbers in addition to the new Undergraduate Degree Programme offerings in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Biological Sciences and Engineering, as well as additional Postgraduate Degree Programmes to be introduced in the coming years.

This new state-of-the-art campus will be built on 12 acres of land, and will have a range of modern facilities including computer and engineering labs, a library, lecture theatres, breakout and study areas, to further improve the Lancaster University Ghana student experience. The entire campus is expected to be completed and ready to operate at start of the 2019/2020 Academic year.

In his address at the sod-cutting ceremony Mr Rakesh Wahi, Co-founder of TAG said, ‘Today marks an important landmark as we make a long term commitment to building our own campus in Ghana. For our Group it’s our first infrastructure project and we are extremely excited about it. The new campus will be a purpose-built facility that will cater to the new suite of programmes that we will be launching with our academic partner, Lancaster University UK.’

Special guests in attendance included Honourable Yaw Buaben Asamoa, MP of Adentan Municipality, Dr Prince-Joseph Ayiku, Managing Director of Lakeside Estate, Mr Lawrence De Souza, Marketing Director of Lakeside Estate, who all gave their full support towards the vision for the new campus.

The Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University, Professor Mark Smith also commented on the new milestone: ‘I’m delighted that the establishment of a new campus for Lancaster University Ghana is underway – we aim to produce graduates who have the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of Ghanaian society and the wider African economy in the years to come and the new campus should offer our students first class facilities to learn and study.’

With Lancaster University Ghana currently offering Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses from the Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at their current campuses in East Legon, a new campus will allow for a future expansion in the course offerings in the years to come, and strengthen Lancaster University Ghana’s commitment to excellence and research.
