The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has expressed deep sorrow following a fatal motor accident involving a team of five members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) near the Obuasi Airport area on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
The team was conducting a major operation to combat illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, when the accident occurred.
Tragically, one member of the taskforce has been confirmed dead, while the other four sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical attention.
In a statement, the Minister extended “profound sympathies to the family of our fallen colleague” and conveyed “heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery to the injured team members.”
The Ministry has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine its cause and ensure accountability.
Officials also reiterated their commitment to the welfare of frontline personnel, promising continued support and care for the affected team members.
The Ministry’s Media Relations Officer, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, confirmed that all necessary measures are being taken to provide assistance and clarity regarding the incident.
