The Minister of Information has stressed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has intentions of effecting laws that are made in the country.
Speaking on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban, Mustapha Hamid said “it is important that when we make laws in this country we have the intensions to effect those laws and that is why government believes it is important that we make effort at effecting the law.”
Speaking on the implementation of the Representation of the People’s Amendment Law, Hamid disclosed “government will engage with the Electoral Commission on what is needed to ensure ROPAL works.”
“The Electoral Commission (EC) after those consultations have taken place will let government know how much money and logistics and infrastructure is needed to ensure that ROPAL works,” Hamid added.
He noted “government will look at the additional coffers and see what needs to be done to ensure it happens.”
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assured Ghanaians in the diaspora of his government’s determination to provide the needed funding to enable the Electoral Commission to implement the Representation of the People’s Amendment Law (ROPAL) in future elections.
ROPAL seeks to provide opportunity for Ghanaians living aboard to participate in general elections. The law was passed 12 years ago, but the Electoral Commission has not been able to implement it due to inadequate resources.
