Opposition National Democratic Congress has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare to instruct Police officers manning the various centers in the ongoing exhibition of the voters’ register to abide by the electoral laws of the country.
According to the party, some officers providing security for the exhibition centers are refusing to allow party agents to monitor the exercise as permitted by the electoral laws.
Speaking to Joy News the deputy director of IT for the NDC Tanko Computer said the NDC is hopeful the IGP will heed their appeal
“We are appealing to the IGP to ask his men to follow the electoral laws. The laws allow the party agents to monitor the ongoing exhibition exercise so there’s no point stopping the agents from doing their job,” he told JOY News.
Meanwhile, the IGP has assured the political parties the security agencies are ready for the exhibition exercise.
“Going forward, in terms of the voter register exhibition that we are working on starting from tomorrow. We want to give the assurance that across the 38,622 polling stations, we are deploying at all the places, and we have a rapid response team to go and also manage any situation with a de-escalation mindset.
“So that at the end of the day, with the seven to eight days of exercise that we are going to have, it will be successful, it will be peaceful, and it will add something positive to all the positives we have achieved as a country for ourselves and for the African continent”, the IGP stated during a working visit to the premises of the Electoral Commission on Monday.
