The MP for Ningo Prampram Sam George has rubbished as frivolous reports that he had locked the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) together with some branch executives of the party in his residence.
According to reports, the party officials and the branch executives were in the residence because some re-registration booklets that were to be sent to the constituency office were allegedly diverted to the lawmaker’s house.
The supposed diversion of the documents from the National Headquarters to Mr. George’s house did not go down well with the NDC’s branch executives compelling them to storm the former’s house for explanation, said the report.
The move by the branch executives infuriated the MP—thus instructing that they be locked up.
But speaking Thursday January 4, 2018 on Morning Starr with Francis Abban, Mr. George debunked the report as incomprehensible, explaining that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party has laid out comprehensive procedure of handling the re-registration forms.
“A meeting was called by constituency chairman at the instance of a request from the region and the region was clear on who and who should be in the meeting. And on the eve of the meeting we realised that some other contrary information were circulating purporting to be coming from the region through sources that are not part of the constituency executives.
“Some of those sources that were circulating the fake information within the constituency were actually painting a picture of them coming to perpetrate violence to ensure that what they wanted was done,” he told Abban.
He continued: “There are guidelines that have been issued by the party’s NEC on how the booklet should be handed over from the National to the Constituency and that no group of individual can vary the decision of the NEC.”
