President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate recall of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed from his post as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria.
This follows allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in Ayawaso East on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
In a statement issued right after the electrion by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidency said the decision was taken in response to claims of vote-buying linked to the contest in which Baba Jamal participated as a candidate.
According to the statement, while allegations were made against “multiple candidates who contested the primaries,” Baba Jamal was “the only serving public officer among them,” prompting the President to act.
The President also referenced a public statement by the NDC General Secretary indicating that the party has begun its own investigations into the matter.
“Without prejudice to the ongoing internal party processes, and strictly in view of the standards of conduct expected of public officers, the President considers it necessary to act decisively to preserve the integrity of public office,” the statement said.
The recall takes immediate effect, and the Foreign Affairs Minister has been directed to take the necessary administrative and diplomatic steps to implement the directive.
