The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that president Akufo-Addo is to blame for the grisly murder of Captain Maxwell Mahama.
It said in a statement Wednesday : “The NDC is laying blame for this heinous and callous lynching of Captain Mahama at the doorstep of President Akufo-Addo.”
This is because under his watch, the country has known no peace with vigilante groups linked to his government on vandalism spree, seizing state properties and going on collision course with law enforcement agencies. Also, there are pockets of violence in parts of the country as rowdy citizens attack police stations to release suspects—a situation he failed to fiercely tackle.
“Under the direct supervision of President Akufo-Addo, the state has watched and sponsored its goon squads to unleash wanton mayhem on innocent Ghanaians. From the beating up of a serving police officer at the Flagstaff House to the beating up of a regional security co-ordinator, the disruption of a court process, the burning of toll booths, and the molestation of civil servants, the lawless culture of impunity has now reached the doorstep of the Ghana Armed Forces,” the statement signed by its General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia said.
The NDC’s accusation comes in the wake of the lynching and burning to death Captain Mahama of the 5 Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp in Accra, but on detachment duties at Denkyira Obuasi where he was killed after allegedly mistaken as an armed robber.
Angered by the sadistic murder of the young officer, the NDC observed that the scourge of lawlessness being witnessed after former President John Mahama handed over to Akufo-Addo is “unacceptable.”
While condemning the dastardly lynching of Captain Mahama, the party urged Akufo-Addo to resign if he realized that he cannot govern the country.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo commiserating with the family of Capt. Mahaha assured that the culprits of the horrifying act will be dealt with ruthlessly saying “no one will go free.”
