President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare delivery, completing stalled projects, and addressing the economic challenges facing Ghana.

Speaking at the first Akwasidae festival of 2025 at the Manhyia Palace, the President expressed his gratitude to the people of the Ashanti Region for their support during the last election and assured them of his administration’s dedication to national development.

President Mahama highlighted the need for expanding military healthcare facilities, particularly during times when public hospitals face disruptions such as strikes.

“There are cases where public hospitals have been closed due to industrial actions, but military hospitals always remain operational. That is why we decided to establish a second military hospital,” he said.

He noted that a partially completed hospital project in Kumasi, abandoned for over eight years, would soon be revived. “The military hospital in this region has been left abandoned, but my administration has taken steps to ensure its completion. This facility will help improve healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region and beyond,” he stated.

The President acknowledged the economic hardships facing Ghanaians, citing the global economic downturn and local challenges, but promised to work diligently to address these issues.

“I understand your expectations are high, and I assure you we will do our best to make Ghana a better place for our children and grandchildren,” he said.

Expressing gratitude to the people of the Ashanti Region, President Mahama recognized the significance of their support despite the region not being traditionally considered a stronghold of his party.

“The confidence you showed in us during the last election contributed to our overwhelming victory, and I am deeply grateful. You can count on me to deliver on my promises,” he added.

The President concluded his speech with well wishes for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the people of the Ashanti Kingdom.

“I wish you good health, long life, and continued progress for your kingdom. May God continue to bless our land and make Ghana great,” he said.

The Akwasidae festival, a significant traditional event in the Ashanti calendar, was marked by colorful cultural displays, drumming, and dancing.

It brought together traditional leaders, government officials, and citizens to celebrate the rich heritage of the Ashanti Kingdom.
