The Majority Caucus in Parliament has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of eight lives, including two sitting ministers and other distinguished public figures, in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
In a statement signed by Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, the caucus extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and described the incident as a “devastating blow” to Parliament, the Government, the Armed Forces, and the nation as a whole.
The deceased include Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence; Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, and MP for Tamale Central; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman, NDC; Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Pilot; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, Co-pilot; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Crew member.

“Our former colleagues in Parliament and in Government and the officers we have lost dedicated their lives to the service of our nation,” the statement read. “Their untimely and tragic demise is a devastating blow to Parliament, the Government, the Armed Forces and the people of Ghana as a whole.”
Hon. Ayariga said their “sacrifice, patriotism, and commitment to duty will forever be etched in the history of our Republic.”
The crash, involving a Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter, occurred during a flight from Accra to Obuasi. The aircraft lost radar contact shortly after takeoff, triggering a search-and-rescue operation which ended with confirmation that all eight onboard had died.
