The National Operations Directorate (NOD) Surveillance Unit of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a 32-year-old man, Akoto Nelson, for impersonating a police officer during a musical concert at the Black Star Square in Accra.
Nelson was arrested on Sunday, October 19, 2025, after officers deployed for event security noticed him in a police uniform bearing the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and behaving suspiciously.

Upon questioning, he admitted he was not a police officer.
Further investigations revealed that he had impersonated the late Chief Inspector Gyasi, from whom he obtained the police uniform and accoutrements in 2022.
Police say Nelson confessed he wore the uniform to gain free entry to the event because he could not afford the gate fee.

A search at his Taifa-Ashaiman residence led to the discovery of several items retained as exhibits, including:
- One toy P99 pistol
- One pepper spray and pouch
- Two ZTE mini handsets and a charger
- One Xinfa cutter knife
- Several complimentary cards
- One voter ID card in the name of Akoto Nelson Elikem
- One birth certificate in the name of Nelson Akoto

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect works as a security guard and messenger at a private company.
He is currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court soon.
