The Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) is on the heels of some Members of Parliament and celebrities for defaulting in loan payment.
MASLOC has served notice it will publish the names and pictures of the legislators who have taken vehicle loans but have failed to pay back.
According to a deputy CEO of MASLOC Maame Afia Akoto, the MPs have until the end of October to clear their loans else risk being embarrassed.
“We are not looking at the status of people,” she stated. “We have written to the MPs involved and will publish their names in the dailies… We are going to put out the names depending on their loan portfolios, the sizes.
“The fact that you are a Member of Parliament doesn’t mean that if you pick MASLOC loan, we can’t come after you. We are going all out and we are not looking at party colours, we are not looking at anything”, Ms Akoto averred.
MASLOC has confiscated over 350 commercial vehicles over non-payment of loans as it goes all out to clear its books.
Ms Akoto said the defaulting MPs cut across both political divides – the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The leadership of Parliament has been informed about the intended action.
The debt portfolio of MASLOC is over Gh¢100 million.
According to Ms Akoto, some of the debtors include celebrities – actors and actresses. MASLOC has served notice it will take legal action against recalcitrant debtors.
