The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has invoked the spirits of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) founding fathers to guide Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as he makes another attempt to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post, the former National Lottery Authority (NLA) boss expressed confidence that Dr. Bawumia’s journey, though difficult, would “end in praise.”
“As the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) an offshoot of the Danquah- Dombo-Busia Tradition enters a critical phase in its quest to recapture power in 2028, May the Gentle Souls of our Forbears (Danquah , Dombo and Busia) provide useful guidance and inspiration from the Spirit World to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as he makes a case to the NPP Delegates and its rank and file from tomorrow,” Mr. Awuku wrote.
He urged party faithful to run a campaign of dignity, free of insults and acrimony, stressing the need for unity ahead of the primaries. “Let the campaign be civil and decent. Let us extol the virtues of our preferred candidate without undermining the future of the NPP,” he added.
The Akuapem North lawmaker further offered prayers for divine direction, declaring, “I stand with Bawumia. May the NPP God guide us all to victory in 2028.”
Dr. Bawumia, who lost the 2024 presidential election, officially filed his nomination to contest the party’s flagbearer slot shortly before the deadline on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
The closing of nominations confirmed the final list of five aspirants for the January 2026 primaries.
