Management and staff of the Accra East region of the Electricity Company of Ghana have supported flood victims in Mepe in the North Tongu district with relief items.

The items worth GHC60,000 realized from individual contributions made by management and staff include cassava dough, water, mattresses, sanitizers, corn and several other products.

The gesture, according to the General Manager, Bismark Otoo is to show love and sympathy to the affected residents whose livelihoods have been impacted adversely by the floods.

He indicated that the crisis has impacted not only the lives of the victims but also other businesses in the area.

“We are here to present these items that we have realized from the pockets of the over 810 ECG staff in Accra East. This is to show love to the affected people and also sympathize with them.”

On the matter of the impact of the disaster on economic activities, the General Manager said, “ECG provides power for the economic growth of our communities but businesses have remained at a standstill due to what happened.”

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who led North Tongu Chiefs to receive the items expressed gratitude to the donors describing their efforts as “heartwarming and human.”

Mr. Ablakwa also remarked that “what we have seen is a show of love from the entire Ghanaian community towards our people and that is remarkable.”

Victims of the floods continue to enjoy solidarity from all kinds of institutions and individuals as efforts are being made to return them to normal life.
