Former Majority Leader, Cletus Avoka says the changes made to the leadership of the Minority in Parliament could disturb the unity that exists among Minority Members of Parliament.
The opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has reshuffled its leadership in Parliament with the appointment of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as the new Minority Leader.
The former Ranking Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Essiam replaces Hon. Haruna Iddrisu.
Dr. Ato Forson is to be assisted by MP for Ellembele, Kofi Armah Buah who has been appointed as the Deputy Minority Leader. He takes the place of James Kutse Avedzi.
The Party has also appointed Adaklu MP, Governs Kwame Agbodza as the new Minority Chief Whip. He replaces Asawase MP, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.
Both Ahmed Ibrahim and Comfort Doyoe Ghansah maintained their position as deputy Minority Whips.
But the changes have been greeted with strong rejection by a section of the NDC MPs who claim they were not consulted and have gone ahead to petition the National Executive Committee of the party.
Speaking to Starr News, Cletus Avoka who is the MP for Zebilla East, called on the NDC leadership to reconsider their decision in the best interest of the party going into the 2024 elections.
“…It is good to know economics but that is not the reason why you should reshuffle and bring somebody who has an economic background as the leader of the Minority. Haruna had been discharging those responsibilities creditably and we are saying that it would lead to low morale in the House, it may lead to disunity in the House and affect the fortunes of the party. When an opposition party is going into an election, we should not rock the boat.”
