Minority to stage another #OccupyBoG demo

The Minority caucus in Parliament is expected to stage a second protest for the removal from office of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Ernest Addison, and his two deputies.

According to the Minority, the governor and his deputies have performed abysmally and must be replaced.

On October 3, 2023, the Minority organized a demonstration to call for the resignation of the governor and deputies after the Bank recorded a GHc60.81 billion loss in the 2022 fiscal year and allocated over $250 million for constructing a new headquarters.

The protesters gathered at the Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and marched through several key locations, including Adabraka, Ridge Roundabout, and the High Court Complex Traffic Light, before ending at Independence Square.

However, the leaders of the Occupy BoG demonstrators refused to present their petition to the Head of Security at the Bank of Ghana describing the act as a disrespect to them.

The demonstrators in their hundreds thronged the Bank of Ghana for the protest, calling for the governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his deputies to resign over causing a ¢60.8 billion financial loss to the state.

The demonstrators led by the Minority Members of Parliament clad in red and black marched chanting war songs and wielding placards among others to drum home their demands.

Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, had petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) regarding the recent construction of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Complex.

In his renewed petition, Ayariga has reiterated allegations of corruption implicating the Bank’s Governor, Deputy Governors, the Board of Directors, and the contracted firm, Goldkey Properties Ltd.

“This is to follow-up on your investigation of the complaint of suspected procurement breaches relating to the new headquarters building of the Bank of Ghana at Ridge, Accra.”

Starr News source has indicated that the Bawku Central lawmaker will be leading the impending demonstration expected on July 30 if the police should give all the clearance.
