The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to controlling ongoing disease outbreaks across the country, implementing a range of measures aimed at protecting public health.
Speaking before Parliament, the health minister, Hon Mintah Akandoh emphasized the government’s proactive response, outlining key strategies, including strengthened surveillance, timely treatment, and heightened public awareness.
“The Ministry of Health is fully committed to working with our partners to control these ongoing outbreaks and to protect the health of all Ghanaians,” the minister stated.
According to the Minister, recent outbreaks of meningitis in the Upper West Region and cholera in parts of Greater Accra and the Central Region have prompted intensified government intervention. The minister and his team have visited affected areas, including Wa Regional Hospital, Mamprobi Hospital, and Swedru Municipal Hospital, to assess conditions and enhance response efforts.
The Ministry is also calling on local authorities and health workers to enforce sanitation laws and ensure access to safe water and food. “I would like to call on the Municipal/District Assemblies, including local authorities responsible for water, sanitation, and food safety, to actively play their part in enforcing local bye-laws,” he urged.
Additionally, he appealed to the media and fellow Members of Parliament to assist in educating the public on disease prevention and the need for early medical intervention. “This helps to prevent further spread and complications, including unfortunate loss of lives. We are doing everything in our power to contain these outbreaks and safeguard the health of our nation.”
