Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has revealed that the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service arrested 68 suspected cybercriminals, rescued 108 victims, and seized 885 electronic devices linked to illicit activities during an Interpol-led initiative dubbed ‘Operation Contender 3’ in August 2025.
He explained the initiative brought together 14 African member states to combat cybercrime and dismantle transnational criminal networks across the continent and beyond in which Ghana distinguished itself amongst other participants.
Speaking at the launch of National Cyber Security Awareness Month at Burma Camp in Accra, the Asawase MP noted that this achievement underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s digital space, protecting citizens and contributing to the global fight against cybercrime.
He said, “The Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service proudly participated in the Operation Contender 3 in August 2025, a major initiative led by the Interpol, which brought together 14 African member states to combat cybercrime and dismantle transnational criminal networks across the continent and beyond.”

According to him, the operation was a major Interpol-led initiative that united security agencies across Africa to disrupt criminal syndicates exploiting cyberspace.
The Minister stressed that Ghana stood out as one of the top-performing nations in the exercise, noting that the country’s police service demonstrated both capability and resilience in fighting cybercrime.
He highlighted that the Cybercrime Unit’s successful arrests, rescue efforts, and seizures serve as evidence of Ghana’s determination to secure its digital environment.
Mr. Muntaka added, “This remarkable achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of the Government of Ghana to safeguarding our digital space, protecting our citizens, and contributing to the global fight against cybercrime.”
Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak concluded that the government remains unwavering in its pledge to protect citizens from cyber-related threats while reinforcing Ghana’s contribution to international security efforts.
