A former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South Fritz Baffuor has described the Nation Builders Corps program (NABCO) and other job initiatives by the Akufo-Addo government as knee jerk efforts.
In his view, such jobs are not sustainable and will contribute little to the fortunes of the economy.
“The roadmaps we see today are short term. We need long term roadmaps. NABCO and other initiatives are knee jerk initiatives,” he stated in a discussion on Morning Starr Friday.
Also commenting on job creation, a Vice President of IMANI Africa Selorm Branttie said the jobs being created by government are short term.
“Looking at the way things are going, I think we are becoming welfare state. Your value and what you do should surpass what you are paid. Government is trying to create jobs but for the short term. We have not seen a roadmap on how to create jobs for the long term”.

President Akufo-Addo in May this year launched the Nation Builders Corps in Kumasi as an initiative by the government to provide employment for 100,000 unemployed graduates. The programme is initially intended to operate seven modules designed to meet the pressing needs of the nation, while providing jobs for the teeming youth who have received tertiary education but are struggling to find jobs.
The beneficiaries will be engaged for three years and they are expected to earn a monthly stipend of GH¢700 each. The modules under NABCO are Feed Ghana, Educate Ghana, Revenue Ghana, Heal Ghana, Enterprise Ghana, Digitise Ghana and Governance Ghana.
