Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Morris Addae, a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task force, has fully recovered after being shot in the thigh during an anti-galamsey operation earlier this year.
The incident occurred on January 20, 2026, along the Subinkrom–Kyeremasu stretch in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region, when unknown assailants opened fire on the NAIMOS team.
L/Cpl Addae was rushed to St. Matthew Catholic Hospital in Ampenkuro, where he received prompt medical attention and underwent weeks of intensive care and rehabilitation.
On February 26, 2026, a delegation led by NAIMOS Director of Operations, Colonel Dominic Buah, visited L/Cpl Addae to assess his progress.
The soldier expressed gratitude to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), the NAIMOS leadership, and well-wishers for their support.
“I am thankful for all the prayers and support. I’m ready to get back to work and continue the fight against illegal mining,” he said.
Colonel Buah commended L/Cpl Addae for his courage and dedication, noting that his recovery reflects the resilience of the task force.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources reaffirmed the government’s commitment under President John Dramani Mahama to sustain NAIMOS operations to curb illegal mining activities across the country.
NAIMOS continues routine operations, ensuring the safety of its personnel while targeting illegal mining activities in all affected regions.
