The Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Ako Gunn, has admitted that the government has not effectively communicated ongoing corruption-related prosecutions and asset recoveries to the public.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Ako Gunn noted that while several cases linked to the previous administration are already before the courts, citizens may not be fully aware because the government has not adequately shared updates.
“I think it’s important for us to take the people along. These recoveries that we’ve been able to do on landed properties and all those things, we’ve not really communicated to our people,” he said.
Ako Gunn emphasized that public expectations focus on visible accountability through arrests and convictions.
“What our people want to see is prosecution, arrest, prosecution, and jailing people,” he added.
He cited examples of ongoing legal proceedings, stating, “As I speak to you… Gifty Oware is in court… the former chief executive of Signals Bureau, Adu Boahen is in court.”
Addressing criticisms that the government has been slow in delivering justice, Ako Gunn explained that authorities are prioritizing strong, legally sound cases.
“Once they are watertight… the wheels of justice grind slowly, but it grinds fine,” he said, underscoring the administration’s commitment to due process while ensuring accountability.
