NDC calls on security services to disregard fake publications emanating from stables of the NPP

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked security agencies and the general public to disregard assertions that it intends to conduct a major shakeup across the rank the file of the country’s security apparatus by firing officers if it wins power in December.

In a press statement, Mr. Gyamfi said the assertions were part of a “deliberate disinformation campaign” led by the ruling New Patriotic Party”
(NPP).

He insisted that the party had no plans to sack new recruits into the security agencies or thoroughly investigate the recruitment process through which personnel were hired during the NPP administration.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the statements contained in the said 2020 video, were not in any way directed at our noble men and women in uniform. Rather, they were directed at those NPP hoodlums who were closed in military uniforms and were captured on tape beating innocent civilians including NDC supporters during the 2020 voter registration exercise in Banda,” the release clarified.

Below is the full statement

PRESS STATEMENT
For Immediate Release;
28th November, 2024

NDC CALLS ON SECURITY SERVICES TO DISREGARD FAKE PUBLICATIONS EMANATING FROM THE STABLES OF THE NPP.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken notice of a deliberate disinformation campaign being waged by the failed and desperate New Patriotic Party, calculated to hoodwink personnel of state security services into voting for them in the December 7 polls.

In the past couple of days, the internet space has been inundated with several fake stories put out by the NPP to the effect that, the NDC will sack new recruits and other personnel of our revered state security agencies when elected.

One of such fabricated stories, is a widely circulated memo attributed to the General Secretary of the NDC, in which it is falsely claimed that the NDC will cancel enlistments and appointments into all state security services and dismiss all new recruits when the party assumes the reins of government in 2025.

Another one of such concocted publications, is a flier with the logo of a fake news account of the NPP, “NEWSGH360”, which bears the image of H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the inscription, “NDC PLANS TO CONDUCT A FORENSIC AUDIT AND REVIEW OF ALL APPOINTMENTS MADE TO STATE SECURITY SERVICES SINCE 2017”.

For the avoidance of doubt, the said publications are totally fake and should be treated with utmost contempt. Neither the General Secretary nor the flag-bearer of the NDC has made or issued the said false statements attributed to them.

The NDC has also noticed the recirculation of a video culled from a press conference addressed by the National Communications Officer of the party in the year 2020 on brutalities meted out to NDC supporters by some NPP hoodlums during the 2020 voter registration exercise in the Banda constituency. The said video is being recirculated by the spin doctors of the New Patriotic Party at this time to support their malicious agenda to pitch our patriotic and hard-working security services against the NDC.

For the avoidance of doubt, the statements contained in the said 2020 video, were not in any way directed at our noble men and women in uniform. Rather, they were directed at those NPP hoodlums who were clothed in military uniforms and were captured on tape beating innocent civilians including NDC supporters during the 2020 voter registration exercise in Banda.

For the records, the NDC acknowledges and honors all the noble, professional and patriotic personnel in our security agencies who work tirelessly to protect our dear nation. We have no intentions whatsoever to victimise any personnel of our revered security services. We therefore urge our security services and the general public to disregard these concocted publications from the NPP.

The NDC has on several occasions cautioned the media and the Ghanaian public to be on the look out for the NPP’s campaign of disinformation. Seeing defeat staring them in the face, with few days to the crucial 2024 general elections, the desperate NPP has resorted to the spreading of fake news to mislead unsuspecting members of the public.

The NDC calls on the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service to ensure a timely investigation of these fake publications and bring the culprits to book. The sources and purveyors of these fake stories are known to all of us, including the Ghana Police Service. We urge the Police to act swiftly.
