A former transport minister, Madam Dzifa Aku Attivor has crashed out on her bid to lead the opposition National Democratic Congress in Volta region as chairperson.

In a fiercely contested election with the incumbent, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong during the party’s Regional delegates Congress in Ho on Saturday, Madam Attivor, lost out to the incumbent with some 117-vote margin, polling 374 votes as against Mr. Gyapong’s 491 votes.

In the Central region, former regional minister Aquinas Tawiah Quansah lost to a former minister  and lawyer  Kojo Tei Addo while popular candidate Joseph Yamin was beaten in Ashanti region despite the support he had from the party’s vigilante group ‘The Hawks’.

In the Greater Accra region, Mr Ade Coker retained his seat beating three other contenders for the job.

The former Transport minister’s protégé and special aide, Egypt Kudoto earlier lost out in his re-election bid for the regional youth organizer.

His former deputy, Mathias Alagbo snatched the position from him with a four-vote margin, 51 against 47 votes.

Also in the Regional Secretaryship contest, a former DCE for Akatsi North, Mr. James Gunu dislodged a third-term seeking incumbent, Mr. Simon Amegashie-Viglo and two other contenders including, Mr. George Loh, former MP for North Dayi.

Mr. Gunu polled 494 votes as against the incumbent’s paltry 82 and Mr. Loh’s 271 and a fourth candidate, Manfred Nuku-Dei’s 20 votes.

In the regional organizer race, Mr. Ben Siki Abibu garnered seven votes more to beat the closest contender, George Darkey, by 439 to 432 votes respectively.

Madam Fafa Agbai, also former DCE for North Tongu beat three other contenders to the Women Organizer position; while Madam Hawa Tahiru also shed off competition from three others to clinch the Zongo Caucus Coordinator in the region.

However, the Treasurer and Regional communication officer slots were grabbed unopposed by Mr. Dan Agboka Dzegede and Kafui Agbleze respectively.
