The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly in Eastern Region has performed ground breaking ceremonies for the construction of some key infrastructure projects aimed at improving the living standards of residents in line with the 2026–2029 Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP).
The plan, prepared based on guidelines from the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) under the Medium-Term National Policy Framework (MTNDPF) seeks to enhance access to basic social services across the municipality’s population of about 130,000.
The projects include construction of a modern CHPS compound at Agavenya, to strengthen efforts toward achieving Universal Health Coverage and supporting government’s free primary healthcare policy.
The project follows the collapse of an old facility in the community, which forced health workers to convert a staff bungalow into a temporary clinic.
Eunice Abuaku, New Juaben South Municipal Health Director, said the Agavenya Health facility serves huge population, stating that the new facility may be upgraded to Health Center to improve its capacity.
“The services to be provided include maternity care, clinical, public health, moving to homes to register all children under 5, pregnant women. And we are looking forward to providing the universal health coverage by 2030. So we are on course in doing that and also for this building to come to fruition”.
The Chief and residents of Agavenya commended the government for swiftly responding to their concerns which has been on the table for over three years.
The MCE also broke ground for the construction of a six-unit classroom block for Zion Primary School at Koforidua Zongo, and a three-unit KG block for Police M/A Basic School, aimed at improving education outcomes in the municipality.

In addition, a brief ceremony was held to commence work on 18 mechanized boreholes in selected communities to improve access to potable water.
All the projects are being funded through the Assembly’s first and second quarter allocations of the 2025 District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
The MCE, Ransford Owusu Boakye, expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the timely release of the Common Fund to facilitate development at the local level.
“I’ve been in office for about four months now, and President John Mahama has tasked us to make sure we are able to provide the necessary amenities for our people and even gave us deadline that by the end of December we should have something to show the people”.
