Ghana’s Interior Minister Ambrose Dery has assured that no Ivorian will be sacked from Ghana contrary to media reports in the neighbouring country.
A publication in an Ivorian newspaper called for the evacuation of all Ivorians in Ghana by December 31 of this year but Mr. Dery has stated that no Ivorian will be driven out of the country.
According to Mr. Dery, government has no plan drive out all Ivorians residing in the country.
Several Ivorians moved to Ghana after that country’s disputed election in 2010.
But Mr. Dery explained that an agreement has been reached between the two countries to ensure the safety and stay of Ivorian refugees in Ghana.
Speaking to Ivorians at the Egyeikrom Refugees Camp in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem [KEEA] municipality of the Central region, as part of his two day tour of the region, the minister said government is putting in measures to ensure that Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire work together to promote economic activities between the two countries and enhance the movement of people, goods and services.
Hon. Dery also advised the refugees to obey the laws of Ghana to ensure peaceful co-existence between themselves and Ghanaians and avoid engaging in partisan politics.
The Egyeikrom Camp is home to about 1,412 refugees and has facilities such as a school, Clinic, and a temporary Police Station.
