Rafik Mahama, special aide to businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama, has dismissed widespread reports suggesting that Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang, the Adventist SHS student flown to the UK for emergency eye treatment, has already undergone surgery and regained her sight.
In a statement posted on social media Monday evening, Rafik clarified that Suzzy has not yet had surgery, contrary to claims making rounds on several blog sites.
“The medical procedure towards recovery for Suzzy Pinamang has just begun in the UK. She has not yet undergone surgery. We remain optimistic and confident that the surgery will be successful,” the statement read.
Rafik added that while the medical process is underway, it is “too soon” to speak of recovery, let alone a restoration of sight. He also adds that the family and medical team are still in the preparatory stages ahead of the actual procedure.
“Please note, we will provide updates to the public as soon as there is a significant development after the surgery,” he said.
Suzzy is currently receiving care at Moorfields Eye Hospital, one of the world’s most reputable eye treatment centers, with full sponsorship from Ibrahim Mahama. She traveled to the UK on May 10, 2025, accompanied by her brother and Rafik Mahama.
The correction comes after multiple media platforms reported that the surgery had already taken place and that Suzzy had made a full recovery, claims Rafik described as untrue.
“We sincerely thank everyone for the ongoing support and prayers for Suzzy and her family during this time,” the statement stressed.
