The current North East Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),
Lawyer Sulley Sambian has formally announced his intention to contest the position of Regional Chairman in the upcoming party elections.
Sambian positioned his candidacy on his track record of competence, experience, and the critical importance of delivering the North East Region for the party’s 2028 presidential bid.
Describing himself as “tried and tested,” Sambian stressed the need for strong, tactical leadership in the home region of NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“The NPP cannot afford to fail Ghanaians in the 2028 polls, much less so when this is the home region of the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“We need someone capable with the expertise to marshal resources and reclaim lost ground. I have been tested and tried in various capacities, and I will deliver,” he said.
The private legal practitioner said regaining ground requires more than rhetoric.
His vision is to transform the North East into a solid stronghold for the NPP and ensure the region delivers strongly for Dr. Bawumia’s presidential ambition.
Sambian will challenge the incumbent Regional Chairman, Nurudeen, who retained his position at the last Regional Conference held in Nalerigu on May 27, 2022. At that conference, Nurudeen polled 71 out of 146 valid votes, defeating his closest challenger, former Yagaba-Kubore Constituency Chairman Akamara Bawah Henry, who received 50 votes.
Sambian himself was overwhelmingly retained as Regional Secretary on the same day, securing 106 out of 146 votes — the highest tally among contestants for any position.
