Political analyst Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante has lauded President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s newly formed anti-corruption team, describing it as “nothing but the best” for the task at hand.
In an interview on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Dr. Asah-Asante expressed strong support for the team, which will be tasked with gathering information on corruption and holding individuals accountable once Mahama assumes office.
The team, led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, is set to uncover corruption and prepare for legal action to recover stolen state resources.
Dr. Asah-Asante emphasised that the formation of such a team was vital in strengthening the country’s governance and aligning with the tenets of Ghana’s constitution.
He further highlighted the importance of tackling corruption, which has plagued the country for years with staggering losses that could fund significant development projects
Dr. Asah-Asante praised the composition of Mahama’s anti-corruption team, saying they were well-suited to handle the task “without fear or favor.”
He expressed optimism that the team’s work would support Mahama’s commitment to accountability and help address one of the nation’s most pressing issues.
“I think the body is a good one, the work they are hoped to do is part of the process to strengthen the frontiers of our governance architecture in the country and all these protestors, issue about corruption and investigation leading to it is in line with tenant of our constitution and that of the governance. It really supportive of the course and the team that they’ve put together is nothing but the best that can handle the situation without fear or favour. Corruption has been one of our problems in this country. What we lose through corruption will blow your mind. We are in IMF looking for 3billion dollars meanwhile we lose over 3billion dollars to corruption.”
