Spokesperson for Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum’s presidential campaign, Yaw Opoku Mensah, says the former Education Minister is entering the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race as a serious contender and not just to make up the numbers.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Friday, August 29, Mr. Mensah revealed that internal surveys conducted by the campaign team show Dr. Adutwum has strong support across the party base.
“We’ve done our own internal survey, we’ve done our own internal research, and on two different occasions give us a firm footing within this contest. We are in this contest to win. We are not just adding up to the numbers.
We made a firm commitment and a bold statement prior to the announcement of his intention to contest. And we’ve carried that intention through to yesterday when we submitted and officially became part of the process. We are in to make a statement to the good people of Ghana through the NPP,” he said.
Mr. Mensah added that Dr. Adutwum’s vision goes beyond the primaries, stressing that his campaign is rooted in addressing Ghana’s long-standing developmental challenges.
According to him, Dr. Adutwum’s leadership will ensure socio-economic transformation that has eluded the country since independence.
The Education Minister under former President Akufo-Addo officially filed his nomination on Thursday, August 28, shortly after former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He was the last aspirant to submit his forms before the deadline closed.
With the filing process completed, five candidates have now been confirmed by the party’s Presidential Elections Committee to contest the primaries. They are Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The stage is now set for a competitive internal election that will determine who leads the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
