Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, has taken a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party, saying the NPP only needs the Akwatia seat to boost its numbers for press conferences and walkouts in Parliament, not for development.

Speaking at the NDC’s final rally at the Boadua Lorry Station on Sunday night, she accused the NPP of being known for two things in Parliament; unnecessary press conferences and frequent walkouts.

She urged the people of Akwatia to vote for Bernard Bediako for development assuring that, majority side in Parliament will support him when sworn into office to lobby more development for the people of Akwatia.

Currently, the NDC held 184 seats in Parliament, while the NPP had 88.

The Boadua rally brought together thousands of supporters and top NDC officials, including Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, and Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Amoakohene.

They urged voters to elect Lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo, promising him direct access to the Presidency and government for development.

Meanwhile, the NPP rounded up its campaign at Wenchi, considered a stronghold in Akwatia.

Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, National Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha, and National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye accused the NDC of frustrating the late MP Ernest Yaw Kumi to his death, urging voters to back the NPP candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumadu.

The NPP also warned that it would not tolerate intimidation during the by-election.

The Ghana Police Service has, however, assured residents of a peaceful exercise, deploying 5,500 personnel and 600 operational officers to maintain law and order.

The by-election follows the passing of the area’s MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi. Contesting the seat are Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the NPP, Bernard Bediako Baidoo of the NDC, and Owusu Patrick of the Liberal People’s Party (LPG).
