NPP is calling for the urgent recall of Parliament to establish a bipartisan public inquiry into recent Ghana-linked narcotics seizures.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the urgent recall of Parliament to allow lawmakers to investigate a series of recent narcotics seizures linked to Ghana.

NPP National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, addressing the media on Tuesday, September 22, said the party wants Parliament to establish a bipartisan committee to conduct a public inquiry into the cases.

He said the committee must be given the authority to summon officials and other witnesses and compel relevant institutions to produce documents connected to the seizures.

“We therefore call on the Speaker to recall the House without delay, and we call for the establishment of a special bipartisan committee, drawn from both sides of the aisle, with full powers to summon witnesses, compel the production of documents and sit in public session, to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the drug seizures linked to Ghana,” Nana Boakye said.

The NPP said the inquiry should establish what happened after each major seizure, including the progress of investigations and how many cases have resulted in completed prosecutions.

The party’s demand comes against the backdrop of several narcotics interceptions it says are connected to Ghana.

In August 2026, the NPP cited the seizure of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine at Tema Harbour. The consignment was reportedly concealed in sacks of gari, with London identified as the intended destination.

The party also referenced the September 7, 2026 seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine at the Port of Dunkirk in France.

According to the NPP, the cocaine was concealed in plastic waste inside a container originating from Ghana, and three suspects were subsequently arrested in Ghana.

The NPP further cited a March 2025 seizure of more than 3.3 tonnes of cocaine at Pedu Junction in Cape Coast and a separate seizure of about 120 slabs of cocaine along the Takoradi-Cape Coast Highway.

Nana Boakye said the proposed parliamentary inquiry would provide an opportunity to examine the circumstances surrounding the seizures and determine responsibility across the relevant institutions.

“We insist that this committee sit in public,” he said.

The party has also called for Parliament to compel the production of shipping documents, inspection records and clearance decisions as part of the proposed investigation.
