Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, the Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was assaulted at the Odorkor Methodist Church Polling Station during the parliamentary rerun election in the Ablekuma North Constituency on Friday, July 11.
The altercation occurred during active voting hours and involved a physical confrontation between Mr. Asamoah and a group of unidentified individuals.
A video circulating on social media shows the moment tensions escalated, although the exact cause of the clash remains unclear.
Neither the Electoral Commission (EC) nor NPP party officials have issued an official statement on the incident as of now.
Despite the disruption, voting at the polling station continued without major delay.
The EC is conducting the rerun across 19 polling stations in the constituency to resolve verification issues that undermined the December 2024 general elections.
While results from 18 of the 37 initially disputed polling stations were certified, the remaining 19 required fresh voting to complete the collation process.
Ablekuma North has remained without parliamentary representation since 2024 due to the protracted electoral dispute.
The EC maintains that the rerun is vital to concluding the process and restoring legislative representation for the constituency.
