The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally petitioned President John Mahama and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, accusing the government of weaponising state institutions and practising selective justice against its members.
The petition was delivered on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, after the party’s much-publicised “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” demonstration, which drew thousands of supporters from across Accra.

Speaking at the Jubilee House, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) said the protest and petition were meant to draw the President’s attention to what the party described as deliberate harassment of opposition figures.
“We are here at the Jubilee House, the seat of government. The New Patriotic Party through the National Youth Wing of the party staged this mammoth protest against what we would describe as a deliberate weaponization of state institutions, specifically the security institutions, purposely to harass members of the opposition party. So the party is fully behind the National Youth Wing and today we are here to present this petition to His Excellency the President John Dramani Mahama,” Nana B stated.

The petition, delivered by Nana B, catalogued what the party called instances of political intimidation, including the arrests and prolonged remands of Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), and several pro-NPP activists.
According to him, while NPP members face harsh treatment, individuals aligned with the governing NDC—such as an alleged fake doctor and activist Ralph St Williams—are left untouched despite engaging in criminal conduct.

The NPP warned that the continued abuse of state power risked undermining Ghana’s democracy, silencing dissent, and damaging the integrity of the Police Service.
