The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western Region is to begin the vetting of some twenty-eight (28) parliamentary aspirants from thirteen (13) constituencies where there are sitting Members of Parliament today.
Ahead of the vetting, the party has so far received more than four petitions with some coming from the Ahanta West, Kwesimintsim and Effia constituencies.
Western Regional Chairman of the NPP, Francis Ndede Siah who confirmed receiving petitions told Empire News’ Emmanue Ohen-Gyan that the vetting has been grouped into two that will be headed by the 2nd National Vice Chairman, F.F Anto
“I can confirm to you that some petitions have been received, one from Ahanta West, two from Effia, and am also told that there are two more but I don’t know where those petitions are coming from and the content in those petitions, he stated.
The party is set to vet 13 aspirants from Amenfi East, Prestea Huni Valley, Tarkwa, Jomoro, Evalue Ajomoro- Gwira and Mpohor constituencies on Sunday, March 1st while Kwesimintsim, Effia, Takorad, Sekondi, Essikado-Ketan and Shama Constituencies will be vetted on Monday March 2nd
“I won’t give you further details on the petitions because the vetting committee will deal with that, also I want to warn aspirants to refrain from campaigning, for now we have not given any aspirants the green light to campaign, anybody who flouts this directive will be disqualified”, he warned
Ohene-Gyan who has sighted one of the petitions from the Effia Constituency reports that some polling station executives are praying the committee to disqualify one Adjoa Kwegyiriba Aggrey as they state that she has never lived in the constituency.
In all, three incumbents in the persons of Minister for Railways and MP for Essikado Constituency, Hon. Joe Ghartey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency, Catherine Abelema Afeku, and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and MP for Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency, Lawyer Barbara Oteng-Gyasi are going unopposed.
