Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has raised serious concerns over the recent termination of over 500 employment contracts by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), describing the move as counterproductive and potentially harmful to the institution.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Isaac Addae on Friday, November 28, Dr. Kissi questioned the rationale behind the decision, saying, “If someone tells me that they want to just sanitise the system, I find it quite difficult to understand that.”
He further warned of the consequences for institutional knowledge, noting, “They are inflicting self-injury to their own people because all the 100% people who are going home is impossible to tell me that all of them are NPP. You understand?”
Dr. Adomako Kissi expressed concern that the dismissals could undermine AMA’s operational efficiency, particularly given the years of experience held by many of the outgoing staff.
He called for a more measured approach that balances reform with the retention of skilled personnel, stressing the importance of maintaining continuity and expertise within the assembly.
The terminations affect all Internally Generated Fund (IGF) staff employed before May 2025, who have been asked to vacate their positions by January 1, 2026. Those employed from May onward are exempted.
Affected staff are required to hand over AMA property and may reapply for future engagement by January 15, 2026.
