The Northern regional minister Salifu Sa-eed has called on the various municipal and district assemblies in the region to disregard the statement from the regional coordinating council asking them to pay GHC5,000 each towards President Akufo-Addo’s tour of the region.
The minister in a statement said the order, which has caused an uproar on social media, was not sanctioned by his office and the appropriate authorities.
“ I wish to make it clear that the decision which was arrived at by the MMDCEs themselves and based on precedence had no official sanction. The president has toured a number of regions, since assuming office as President and all these trips have been funded from the budget of the office of the President.
“I wish therefore to direct all MMDCEs in the Northern region to disregard the content of the earlier letter as circulated on social media,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the local government ministry had earlier said the move was not sanctioned by the ministry.
The President is expected to spend 7-days in the Northern region on a working tour.
