Family of the CEO of the Advance Body Sculpt Center at the Obengfo hospital at Weija in Accra, says it suspects foul play in the prosecution of Dr. Dominic Obeng Andoh.
The beleaguered plastic surgeon was rushed to the Police Hospital on Tuesday after he fell ill in police custody.
He was later charged with murder by an Accra Magistrate Court after the mysterious death of the deputy CEO of the NEIP Stacy Ofei Darko at his facility.
The embattled doctor is alleged to have kept the body of Ms. Ofei-Darko for over three days at his facility before depositing it at a mortuary without informing the family.
Speaking to Starr News, Uncle of Dr. Obeng Andoh told Starr News’ Atiewin Mbillah Lawson that their relative is a qualified doctor and a decent professional.
According to him, the prosecution of Obeng Andoh is an attempt to dent his reputation by certain people who are envious of his work.
“We have no doubts about his qualifications, his behaviours and all that…he is a decent person.”
Asked whether he thinks the whole prosecution is an intentional ploy to destroy his business, he responded “it could be, we are in Ghana.”
Meanwhile, the Medical and Dental Council has stated that it tried in vain shut down the facility on several occasions.
The council said it had on two occasions moved in to halt the operations of the facility on the back of complaints by some patients that they were having complications after surgery.
Registrar of the Dental and medical council Eli Atukpui told Starr News the council had done everything within its mandate to ensure the hospital ceased operation.
“You would have noted that attempts were made previously to have the institutions closed down and…that institution was really closed down on two occasions.
“Has the Medical and Dental Council taken steps to do whatever that body is set up to do, has the Medical and Dental Council done what exactly is was supposed to have done, the answer is Yes. So if the Medical and Dental Council has played and there is a failure in a particular institution then I don’t think the blame would have to come to the Medical and Dental Council,” Dr. Atikpui said.
