The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison has stated that he will not act on the calls by the Minority in Parliament and other interest groups to resign.

Speaking in an interview with International Business Website, Central Banking the governor Addison described the demonstration by the Minority as “completely unnecessary.”

“The demonstration yesterday (October 3, 2023) was completely unnecessary,” Addison said, adding that neither he nor his deputies intend to step down.

“The Minority in Parliament have many channels to channel their grievances in civilised societies, not through demonstrations in the streets as hooligans,” Addison added in reference to the #OccupyBoG demonstration.

Background

Leaders of the Occupy BoG demonstrators refused to present their petition to the Head of Security at the Bank of Ghana describing the act as a disrespect to them.

The demonstrators in their hundreds thronged the Bank of Ghana for the protest, calling for the governor, Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies to resign over causing a ¢60.8 billion financial loss to the state.

The demonstrators led by the Minority Members of Parliament clad in red and black marched chanting war songs and wielding placards among others to drum home their demands.

Even though police tried to prevent them from gathering at the fore of the Bank of Ghana building, they defied all odds and maintained they will not move until they present their petition to the governor himself.

But that would not come true as the governor sent his head of security, Wing Commander Kwame Asare Boateng retired to receive the petition on his behalf. But the minority refused to present the petition.
