The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched a dramatic crackdown on Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), raiding the company’s offices in Osu and Tema on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
This according to report forms as part of an ongoing investigation into a contentious government contract reportedly worth over $500 million.
The court-sanctioned operation was carried out with the support of operatives from the National Security Secretariat.
Three senior directors of the company were arrested during the coordinated search, which sources say is aimed at retrieving key electronic data from SML’s internal servers.
According to insiders familiar with the case, the OSP is narrowing its probe into financial irregularities linked to the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, particularly during the tenure of ex-Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

The former minister has been declared a fugitive by the Special Prosecutor after repeatedly failing to respond to a formal summons.
At the heart of the investigation is a controversial contract between SML and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), awarded shortly after the NPP assumed office in 2017.
SML, previously known as Strategic Mobilisation Enhancement Limited (SMEL), allegedly secured the deal through a single-source procurement process, despite being a relatively new player in the sector.

Public records indicate that the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) rejected GRA’s request for approval on at least three occasions, citing the company’s lack of technical and operational experience.
Nonetheless, SML went on to land contracts reportedly earning the firm over $100 million annually, with its scope later expanding into Ghana’s petroleum and mining sectors.
