A fire outbreak ravaged Circle Odawna in Accra on Thursday morning, destroying over 15 structures.
The early morning fire outbreak was quickly brought under control by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), whose timely intervention prevented the blaze from damaging a nearby warehouse and over 200 other structures.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident took place in the same area where a recent fire outbreak had previously destroyed several wooden structures.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has commenced investigations into the cause of the fire and has cautioned business owners and residents to observe and strictly adhere to fire safety precautions to mitigate the risk of further fire incidents in areas prone to fires.
“Fortunately, our team at Circle is just a few minutes away from the scene, so they got there in good time. However, the unfortunate issue was that the fire was situated right at the edge of the Odawna gutter, making it difficult for them to access the area.
“The fire tender could not get close to the scene, so we had a hard time manoeuvring the tender to fight the fire,” Alex King Nartey, a Public Relations (PR) team member of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) disclosed.
