Parliament has formally notified the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacancy in the Kpandai parliamentary seat following a court-ordered re-run of the constituency’s election.
In a letter dated December 4, 2025, and addressed to the EC Chairperson, Jean Adukwie Mensah, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, said the vacancy arose as a result of a High Court ruling in Tamale that annulled the earlier election results and ordered a fresh poll in the Kpandai Constituency.
The notification, issued under Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution, follows the formal service of the court order on Parliament as a party to the case.
The Clerk explained that the High Court’s decision, delivered on November 24, 2025, legally triggered the vacancy in Parliament.
The Kpandai dispute stems from a legal challenge to the 2024 parliamentary election results in the constituency. Petitioners questioned the validity of the declared outcome, leading the High Court to set aside the results and direct the EC to conduct a rerun.
The Electoral Commission is now expected to take steps toward organising the fresh election in line with the court’s directive and applicable electoral laws.
