The Appointments Committee of Parliament has scheduled its initial vetting of President John Mahama’s ministerial nominees for next week Monday.
In a memo shared to the Dean of the Parliamentary Press Corp, the Director of Media Relations noted that the vetting process will include the first three ministers designate announced by the president’s office yesterday.
The president’s Special Aide, had in a communique, indicated that the Majority Leader in Parliament had been tapped to lead the Finance Ministry, a department in which he previously served as Deputy Minister.
The statement from the presidency added that Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, John Jinapor, would lead the Energy Ministry while Dr. Dominic Ayini takes the coveted position of Minister of Justice and Attorney General.
Their appointments are subject to parliamentary approval per Article 78 of the constitution.
The three Members of Parliament are expected to appear before their own colleagues next week.
“The Appointments Committee of Parliament, will hold Public Hearings on Monday, 13th January, 2025 at 9:00am, at Committee Rooms 1& 2, Administration Block, to consider the following nominees as Ministers of State:
“Hon Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson
– Minister designate to the Ministry of Finance.
“Hon John Abdulai Janipor – Minister designate to the Ministry of Energy.
“Hon Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine – Minister designate, Attorney General and Ministry of Justice,” the memo itemized.
The media has been accordingly invited to cover the proceedings.
It is highly unlikely that the three men will face stiff opposition in the House as their party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) enjoys commanding majority.
