Parliament will resume sitting on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as the second session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic officially begins.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, announced the commencement in a constitutional instrument issued on January 19, 2026, in line with Article 112(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which empowers the Speaker to determine the date, time, and place for parliamentary sittings.
According to the instrument titled Second Session of Parliament (Commencement) Instrument, 2026, the House will reconvene at 12:00 noon at Parliament House in Accra.
The notice, signed by the Speaker, provides the constitutional basis for Parliament’s return following the conclusion of the first session and the recess period.
The resumption of sittings is expected to see Members of Parliament return to legislative business, including debates on national policy, consideration of bills, and the exercise of Parliament’s oversight responsibility over the Executive.
The Ninth Parliament, which was inaugurated in January 2025, continues to play a key role in Ghana’s democratic governance under the Fourth Republic.
The constitutional instrument was issued under the hand of the Speaker on January 19, 2026, in accordance with established parliamentary procedure.
