Police investigate alleged attack on Asantehene’s convoy in Techiman

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in Techiman, Bono East Region, on Monday, December 2, 2024.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred as the Asantehene was returning to Kumasi after attending a funeral in Nkoranza.

The convoy, which was en route back to Kumasi, came under attack when some unidentified youth, believed to be from Techiman, hurled stones at several buses in the convoy.

The Ghana Police Service, in a statement issued on Tuesday, confirmed the investigation, saying, “The Ghana Police Service is investigating an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, which occurred at Techiman in the Bono East Region, yesterday, Monday, 2nd December 2024. Preliminary Police investigation revealed that the incident occurred as the Asantehene was returning from a funeral at Nkoranza in the Bono East Region when some youth believed to be from Techiman threw stones at some buses in the convoy.”

The statement continued, “The Police are in touch with Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and other stakeholders at Techiman as part of the investigation. We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with the Police as the investigation into the matter continues.”

The Police have assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously and will ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
