The Central East Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for armed robbers involved in a fatal attack at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Central Region.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, June 6, 2026, when a group of masked armed men attacked a mobile money vendor at the market and opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.
According to the Police in a statement, the suspects escaped into a nearby bush before a team of police officers arrived at the scene to begin investigations.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the mobile money vendor, identified as Hamisu Abdulai, and another victim sustained gunshot wounds during the attack. The two were rushed to a nearby polyclinic for medical attention.
However, due to the severity of their injuries, they were later referred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for further treatment.
Police said Hamisu Abdulai was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, while the second victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, is responding to treatment.
The statement added that investigators recovered 14 spent cartridges and one live BB cartridge from the scene. The exhibits have been retained to support ongoing investigations.
The Central East Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to identifying and arresting the perpetrators behind the attack and bringing them to justice.
The police further appealed to individuals with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the Police Emergency Numbers 191 or 18555, or report to the nearest police station.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
