Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, has announced that all Premier League clubs will receive a minimum of GHC 1 million in cash ahead of the 2025/26 season.
This major financial injection comes as part of a new broadcast partnership involving the GFA, the Government of Ghana facilitated by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and rights holders Adesa Productions. The deal was officially unveiled on Thursday, August 31, in Accra.
“Through this unique partnership with Adesa Productions, each one of our GPL clubs will, before of the start of the league season, receive the amount of a million Ghana cedis each,” Kurt said.
“This will be made possible through the new partnership. This will be our minimum payment for each of our GPL clubs under our new model.
“This is not a grant, it is a firm commitment by the Football Association, by Adesa Productions and by the government.”
This funding model replaces the previous arrangement with a Chinese broadcaster, whose contract with the GFA expired after the 2023/24 season and was not renewed due to disagreements over terms.
The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League is set to kick off over the weekend of September 12, with defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars leading the pack of 18 clubs in the title chase.
The new tripartite deal also ends widespread speculation over a potential return of StarTimes as the official broadcaster of the Ghana Premier League.
