Presidential staffers and appointees at the Office of the President have donated GH₵6.1 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares, in support of efforts to provide financial assistance for patients requiring expensive medical treatment.

The cheque, representing President John Dramani Mahama’s six months’ salary and one month’s salary contributions from presidential staffers and appointees, was presented on June 15, 2026, at the Jubilee House.

The presentation was led by the Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, on behalf of the Chief of Staff.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo said the donation reflects the values underpinning the government’s Reset Agenda and demonstrates leadership through personal sacrifice and service.

She commended the Ghana Medical Trust Fund for its impact in supporting patients and appealed to individuals and corporate organisations to continue contributing to the initiative.

According to her, President Mahama set the tone for the initiative by committing six months of his salary as seed funding and subsequently encouraging presidential appointees and staffers to make similar contributions.

She disclosed that the total amount transferred to the Fund stood at GH₵6.1 million, comprising contributions from the President, presidential appointees and staffers.

“Leadership is not a title; it is a disposition. It is the willingness to put your hand in your pocket when the country needs you. It is the recognition that public service is, at its core, about giving and not receiving,” she stated.

Nana Oye Bampoe Addo noted that the contributions represented real sacrifices by public servants who chose to support a national cause aimed at saving lives and reducing the burden on vulnerable families.

She expressed confidence that the Fund would provide hope for patients requiring costly medical care while contributing to the development of a healthcare support system that leaves no Ghanaian behind.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Ms. Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of the Fund, said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

“Our vision is that within a few years, every region in Ghana will have at least ten specialists to provide advanced care for people living with chronic diseases,” she said.

Nana Oye Bampoe Addo described the donation as a demonstration of government’s commitment to translating compassion into action.

“We are walking the talk. Together, we are the Reset Agenda in action,” she added.

Also present at the event were Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Ms. Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew-Appiah Oppong, Legal Counsel to the President, Shamima Muslim, Nana Yaa Jantuah, presidential staffers, stakeholders and other invited guests.
