The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye has lamented the inadequate impact of Christianity in the fight against endemic evil and corruption in Ghana despite a massive proliferation of Churches in the country.
According to him, the relevance of the Church is not merely in its existence, rather its ability to bring godly transformation to society and help minimize moral canker.
Apostle Nyamekye has, therefore, called on all Christian Churches to join the Church of Pentecost in its quest to “raising a band of societal transformers”.
He said this Wednesday, May 8, 2019, during the opening ceremony of the 16th Session of the Extraordinary Council Meetings of the Church Ongoing at Pentecost Convention Center.
Apostle Nyamekye stated that the ‘Vision 2023’ of the Church of Pentecost guided by an overarching theme, ‘Possessing the Nations” seeks to equip the Church to transform every sphere of the Ghanaians society with values and principles of the Kingdom of God with the overall objective of impacting positively on society.
“We seek to contribute to a God-fearing society with hardworking and committed citizens: a society where there is the display of Christ-like behaviour and demonstration of a high level of integrity, a society with considerable reduction in social injustice, corruption, crime rate and where there is a reasonable reduction in wayward or deviant characters,” he stated.
Apostle Nyamekye added ‘Vision 2023’ of the Church also seeks to build “a transformed society that is very concerned about the environment, keeping it clean and promoting others within the society to do same and a society where citizens in deprived communities have improved access to basic amenities.”
State of The Church of Pentecost
Presenting the state of the Church, Apostle Nyamekye explained that as at December 31, 2018, the Church operated in 101 nations with an overall worldwide total membership of 3,257, 943 representing a growth rate of 7.3% over the previous year.
Out of the total membership, 2,759,642 constituting 84.7% are members in Ghana representing 13.1% of the total Christian population of 29,614,337.
The youth makes up 40% of the Church’s membership, while children and adults above 35years constitute 32.9% and 27.1% respectively.
