The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has implored the Ghana Police Service to strengthen security measures at the various collation centers.
This follows a series of violent incidents and vandalism allegedly carried out by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), sparked by delays in announcing parliamentary election results in some constituencies.
At a press briefing in Accra, on Wednesday, December 11, the General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong urged the Inspector-General of Police to take the necessary steps to prevent further escalation of the incident, thereby enabling EC officials to discharge their duties effectively.
“We’re calling on the police, Mr IGP, the safety of this country is in your hands. Everybody is watching you, everybody is counting on you. Let your men provide maximum security at all collation centers.
“So that officers of the Electoral Commission can do their constitutional duty of making sure we have credible parliamentary candidates-elect in our next Parliament,” he stated.
