The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), as part of its quarterly tariff review, has increased electricity tariffs by 2.45%, effective July 1, 2025.
The increment applies to residential, non-residential, and special load tariff (SLT) customers.
According to the PURC, the adjustment is necessary to ensure the financial sustainability of utility service providers and guarantee a stable electricity supply.
“The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission wishes to inform consumers of electricity and water that, the existing electricity and water tariffs have been reviewed to take effect from July 01, 2025”
In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 25, the Commission explained that the review was informed by key macroeconomic indicators, including a projected average inflation rate of 20.67%, an exchange rate of GHS10.3052 to the US Dollar, and an increase in the weighted average cost of gas to USD7.7134 per MMBtu.
The generation mix for the third quarter, it said, remains unchanged, with 28.8% from hydro sources and 71.2% from thermal sources.
The Commission also factored in outstanding revenue of GHS488 million from previous quarters and the cost of maintaining reserve capacity to ensure grid stability.

The PURC emphasised that the quarterly tariff reviews are designed to reflect prevailing economic conditions while ensuring utility providers can continue to deliver reliable services.
“Having carefully analysed the existing parameters and considering the competitiveness of industries and the general living conditions of the Ghanaian, the Commission wishes to announce an increase of 2.45% across board in the electricity tariffs and 0% increment in water tariffs.”
Meanwhile, water tariffs will remain unchanged for the third quarter of 2025, providing some relief to consumers already facing economic pressures.
Consumers have been advised to take note of the new tariffs and plan accordingly.
